Otto Hirsch memorial, Shavei Zion

Hirsch was one of the founders of the Association of German Jews and was first a leader in seeking to protect the Jewish community in Germany, and after ‘Kristallnacht’ in helping as many as possible to emigrate. He was instrumental in gaining exit permits for members of the Rexingen community who founded Shavei Tsion, he led in the effort to establish the KinderTransport, and in other steps to help thousands flee Nazi Germany. He was murdered at Mauthausen, June 19, 1941.
His memory was honored in Shavei Zion, a settlement established by the Jews of Wurttemberg, Hirsch’s place of birth.
The original monument designed in 1960 by distinguished Architect Hanan Habron was demolished in 2013. Malka Architects are proud to take part in its rehabilitation.
